Hag and Con talk to LEGO ‘Legends of Chima’ designer – Adrian Florea

How did you come up with The Legends of Chima? Hag age 8

The LEGO designers kick off our idea sessions with something we call ‘Story Camp’ which is a brainstorming session that last for around three days where ideas are discussed, developed and scrapped! There is also a story contest with everyone throwing in ideas and suggestions for new exciting universes for the LEGO Group to explore. At the end of story camp the team bring their ideas back to the office and begin developing them. Normally 68 projects survive the camp and are tested with story boards by a large number of children in the test panel. . With Chima in particular I can tell you I have never seen the test panel so excited about the new figures!

How long have LEGO been working on the idea? Hag age 8

A very long time! It’s taken a core team of 12 designers, 10 engineers, two project managers, four marketing professionals and two supporters have worked exclusively on the Legends of Chima range along with hundreds of other people from across LEGO. Everything from design of the vehicles to the design of the packaging has been researched by our experts.

Why are the Heroes and the bad guys animals? Con age 5

The Chima universe is based on an all animal universe where some animal tribes are baddies and some are goodies. All of our animal tribes build on these stories and popular characterisations of animals such as the lion tribe being noble and the Ravens being the ones who collect shiny things.

Are there Legends of Chima costumes coming? Hag age 8

Although there are no current plans for kids Chima costumes in the pipeline we do have our own costume characters that will be making special appearances throughout the year. So keep a look out at LEGOLAND Windsor, LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, Chessington Zoofari Experience and the Chima Challenge road show taking place across the year.
