Hag & Con talk to A Christmas Star Director Richard Elson!!!
What is the first Christmas present you remember getting and why did you like it? Hag age 11
I came down early one Christmas morning to find huge parcels wrapped up for me and my brother, they were bean bags. I liked them because they seemed so big.
Do you know anyone that was either born on Christmas Day or had a baby on Christmas Day and who was it? Con age 8
The closest I know is a friend who was born on Christmas eve, she’s never liked it because everyone buys her just one present for birthday and Christmas.
How many snow globes did you buy to make the film? Hag age 11
I had to check with Robin, the production designer, about this. I bought 3 myself but a total of 45 were bought. There were lots more made for the special Pottersglen factory globes.
Why did you want to make A Christmas Star? Con age 8
There are two things I look for in a script: A story that grabs me and a film I can bring something extra to. Christmas Star had heart and spirit in bucket loads and I loved the idea of being part of some real festive magic. It was also a story I felt I could bring a lot of humour and warmth to, building on some of the work I’ve done before with family drama.
If you could turn on the Christmas lights on anywhere – where would it be and why? Hag age 11
Belfast, without a doubt. The Christmas lights finale was the first scene we filmed and an amazing experience. Switching on the lights there would bring back so many wonderful memories.
If you had special powers like Noelle – what would you use them to do? Con age 8
I would stop everyone moaning on social media. I like it when people are championing causes and getting something done about the problems we have, but I don’t have any time for people just being negative. We live in a wonderful world and that’s what should be celebrated, save your energy for getting something done rather than complaining.
