I’ve heard some very closed minded feedback from adults around ‘My Friend Cayla’ – and all I can say is this is a toy for Kidz not adults and they should think of the bigger picture and the future of the toy. Look at the first ever video games and look what they can do now.
Cayla is far from being as basic as those original games from the 80’s – and in a years time who knows what she’ll be able to do. Just have some patience.
This is quite possibly the most interesting toy to be released in 2014 – and full of potential for the future. We’ve tested Cayla in a similar way to how we reviewed the first generation Kurio tablets – as there are similarities in how a child interacts with both products.
Not that I’m pretending to be an Internet safety specialist – but there appears to be just enough access to the Internet for the toy to feel lifelike – but not so much that you’re wondering what your children are accessing. As a toy for Kidz aged between 3 and 9 years old Cayla is a revolution in modern game play.
Before buying the toy – it’s important that Kidz have access to either a Smart phone or Tablet. And good Internet access is necessary for the full Cayla experience.
From there – as long as you ask the toy clear questions as you would any ‘real’ 6 or 7 year old child – she will come to life in the way the makers intend her to. Try to over complicate your interaction and of course you’ll be disappointed. If I asked my Con (age 7) ‘Who started the French Revolution?’ – he’d give a similar answer to the toy. Ask Cayla ‘Do you like school?’ and she gives a beautifully positive answer showing respect for teachers and the importance of education.
I have tested Cayla with four Kidz aged from 3 to 10 (two boys and two girls) and all were very impressed and loved playing with her.
New games and access will be available soon – and like any new technology (be it a PS4 or Kurio Tablet) the technology will have constant updates in the future so she can only get better. This is a must own toy on every lever. Highly Recommended!!!
