Pacific Rim Uprising – Con & Bex discuss being a Jaeger Pilot, deleted scenes and building Scrapper with Cailee Spaeny!!!
How did you feel when you first found out you were in a Pacific Rim film and who was the first person you told? Con 11
Cailee Spaeny – I was sitting outside on my driveway because I wasn’t getting good reception in my house. I was in Springfield, Missouri and the second I heard the news my whole family came outside. And my Dad started crying. It felt like the world was spinning. I was just running up and down and calling my best friends to tell them that it had happened.
Have you ever made a robot in real life? Bex age 6
Cailee Spaeny – You know it’s a funny story because When I was prepping for the movie. I was trying to learn about Amara and trying to figure her out the best I could. So I actually went to the welding department in Sydney Australia to talk to the guys that were actually making Scrapper. And I learned how to weld that day. They let me put in the whole gear and weld little pieces. It was so much fun!
If you could have your own scrapper in real life – where would you go and what would you do? Con age 11
Cailee Spaeny – I’d definitely use scrapper to get out of all the LA traffic. Go on the back roads or take the short cuts to get out of the five o’clock traffic in LA.
What was the coolest thing to happen to you while making the movie? Con age 11
Cailee Spaeny – I think the coolest thing that happened was just over time I made some of my best friends of my whole life on the movie. I think that’s pretty cool for me.
And I got to walk the Great Wall of China when we filmed in China and that was pretty cool.
What does it feel like being inside a Jaeger? Bex age 6
Cailee Spaeny – it feels like you’re in a lot of control. It feels like you’re dancing sometimes when you’re doing the Jaeger movements. Because you’ve got to sync up to the other person next to you. And it kind of feels like you’re in a scrubber suit when your in the Jaeger uniforms.
If you could add a power up to scrapper – what would it be and how would you use it? Con age 11
Cailee Spaeny – I think I would add a section where it could make you endless mash potatoes. Because you never see anyone eat at all in movies. You never saw Amara eat at all when she was in the Jaeger. If she had a second she would eat. But really it’s Cailee. If Cailee had Scrapper – she’d have him serve her food all the time!
We’re there any parts you filmed for the movie that got cut that you would have liked to see in the film? Con age 11
Cailee Spaeny – I was watching the deleted scenes and there’s a couple of things that didn’t get to make it in. But there one where I kind of fan girl over meeting ‘Liwen’. It’s my only scene with Charlie Day. It was such a fun day on set and I loved working with Charlie. It was just a fun scene to do and get to freak out when meeting ‘Berlin’. It wasn’t able to make it – but it’s in the deleted scenes.
If there was a Pacific Rim video game – how would you play it? Con age 11
Cailee Spaeny – How would I play it? I’m so awful at video games I wouldn’t ever know what that means. What device would I play it on?
My little brother would help me out in this one. I’m so lame and don’t play any video games. When I do play a video game I’m awful.
I’m a big fan of Virtual Reality.
