Bex talks School life with Malory Towers stars Ella Bright, Carys John and Sienna Arif Knights!!!
If you had a time machine, what historical artifact would you want to go back in time to see made? (Bex age 10)
Ella Bright – The Great Pyramid of Giza. It’s incredible. It’s hard to imagine how something like that could have been built without machinery. It’s over 4,600 years old and still standing strong. I would love to see it in person someday.
Carys John – If could see any artefact made would love to see how the first ever tool was made from the caveman times and see what they used it for and what it was.
Have you ever lost anything you really loved that you’d like someone to give you a treasure map to find it and what was it? (Bex age 10)
Ella Bright – I had a very special necklace that fell off on a plane journey a few years ago. I still think about it sometimes and wonder if it was ever found or if it is still stuck somewhere on the plane. If it is still on the plane, I wonder how many countries it has travelled to. It would be fun to track where it has gone and to see all the miles it has travelled.
Carys John – I had a cute little dog teddy bear which I loved as a kid! I think little me would love to have that back!
Sienna Arif Knights – On my birthday I was given a favourite pair of shoes that I was waiting two years to get. I left them on a bus and was really upset. I didn’t know where the bus went and had to go to school, so had to leave them.
I tried to stop the bus, but couldn’t I make it. I don’t know where they are, I never found them and wish I could have a treasure map to go find them!!!
What is your favourite lesson at school and why do you like it? (Bex age 10)
Ella Bright – My favourite lesson in school is Philosophy and Religion. I love learning about different cultures and religions and getting deep into discussions with my friends about topics that I am passionate about. It’s fascinating to explore all sides of an issue and to not have a right or wrong answer.
Carys John – I love English as it is fun and imaginative and I love studying plays and books as I’m a bit of a bookworm myself!
Sienna Arif Knights – My Favorite subject at school has to be history. I find it really fun to find out lots of things about the world, it’s really interesting. And I like to write about it and watch documentaries and talk about it. Like the Black Lives Matter and Vietnam War.
These are things that are not talked about as much and we get to learn about them at my school, so it’s really fun.
If you your school closed (apart from Malory Towers), what other Film or TV school would you want to go to and why? (Bex age 10)
Ella Bright – I would love to attend Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches (from the Worst Witch). It would be so fun to learn spells and magic as part of the curriculum. I also love that the school really encourages strong friendships and girl power.
Carys John – If my school closed I would so love to go to Hogwarts as I am a big nerd and would love to have a wand!
What’s the hardest thing about acting in the past when you’re from the future? (Bex age 10)
Ella Bright – The hardest thing about acting in a show from the past is the language and the different words and phrases that are spoken that we are not familiar with in our normal lives. There were lots of great sayings in the show that we had to ask the directors what they really meant. There are also some dancing scenes in in some of the episodes and I had to remind myself to dance a bit differently while filming than I normally would at a friend’s party.
Carys John – It was hard as I sometimes forgot that this was in war times and would have to remind myself but when we’re on set it is so real and feels like your there.
Sienna Arif Knights – It’s probably the mannerisms. Sometime when we say the lines we improvise to make it more natural or just the way I act as Sally, for example, my posture and some of the ways I hold my hands it might not be the way Sally would do it in the 1040’s. Which is really hard as an actress to try not to use the same facial expressions sometimes. Or hand movements you wouldn’t do in the 1940’s.
What is your best ‘Real’ school memory and what is your best ‘Malory Towers’ school memory? (Bex age 10)
Ella Bright – My favourite ‘Real” school memory was my Year 6 graduation ceremony and party. It was such a special ceremony celebrating all our time at the Junior school. We finished the night with a disco in our canteen and signed yearbooks and sang and danced. It was a perfect ending to the Junior School and a day that I will never forget.
My favourite ‘Malory Towers’ school memory is the play that we put on in Series 2. It was so fun to put on all of the costumes and perform on stage in front of the Malory Towers teachers and pupils.
Carys John – My favourite ‘real’ school memory was when I was in sports day in year 5 and I won a race! I was so finally and I helped my entire team win and we got ice lollies afterwards! They were delicious!
My favourite Malory Towers school memory was having to try and speak Latin at the front of the class!
Sienna Arif Knights – My best school memory has to be my Year six leavers party. Everyone one was crying because we were leaving for secondary school. So we were all going to miss each other lots, so we all had lots of fun, were dancing and got presents. We were hugging each other and it was really cute.
The best Malory memory has to be my birthday. The whole cast all bought balloons and two cakes for me. We opened presents, danced the night and did Karaoke.
