Fun Kids Radio’s Epic Roadshow Adventure – Harrison, Con and Bex chat going on tour with Dan & Bex!!!
How do you put a radio show on stage? Con age 11
Dan – It’s dead simple! What’s meant to happen is we do all the classic radio stuff – the news, games, playing music – only on stage with a desk, a couple of microphones and hope nothing goes wrong! What actually happens is it all ends up as a disaster, turns to chaos and I wait for Bex to think of something smart to fix it all.
Bex – …except I generally can’t think of anything, except to play some more Ed Sheeran. Luckily we have some of the best listeners around, so they become part of the radio show and really help us to keep going. Without them our radio show would definitely fall apart!
What’s the hardest thing about transferring what you do in a radio show to stage? Harrison age 14
Dan – What makes radio so amazing normally is that it’s just you, a whole bunch of your favourite tunes, and a mic to talk about them. Transferring it to the stage has been tough because suddenly you’ve got millions (approximate audience number) of people sat right there listening to everything you say. Normally I stare at Google waiting for Taylor Swift to do something funny so I can chat about it, seeing a crowd staring at me is quite different.
Bex – Yep, I have to agree with Dan- it’s weird to go from doing radio alone in a room, to having loads of people watching you speak into a mic! Normally I’m in the studio – bopping to tunes, shoes off, eating all the Haribo stash from the Fun Kids Bosses’ Desk- but on stage I have to actually be professional! On the plus side, it’s nice to see people reacting to what you’ve said in real time!
What’s your favourite sketch in the show and why do you like it? Harrison age 14
Dan – The idea is that we’ve been touring a road-show all over the country, trying to do a radio show on stage and live on air at the same time. It’s not been going well, and it just so happens every show in Edinburgh is our last chance to impress the Fun Kids Bosses, rescue the roadshow and save our jobs. So it’s not really sketches, more a load of chances for the audience to come on stage and help us save it!
My favourite part has to be the interview section – we drag a parent out of the audience, and they have to act as an outrageous, ridiculous guest whilst being interviewed on stage. In our preview, one Mum pretended to be a Welsh pig-farming sewage cleaner who had found a gold-mine. She gave it full whack, but her accent was a tad ropey.
Bex – Apart from our super-special, EXCELLENT musical finale, I have a soft spot for the news. All the grown-up radio stations have it, but Fun Kids normally doesn’t, so we thought we’d join in. Plus, it gives me a chance to use my posh newsreader voice, and Dan a chance to embarrass some of the dads in the audience. Don’t want to give the game away, but all parents better come with their best gorilla impression if they want to help us win over the Bosses.
Fun Kids Radio’s Epic Roadshow Adventure is at Underbelly Festival Southbank 22/4/19!!!
